History and Locations

The Montessori Schoolhouse is the oldest authentic Montessori school in Tucson, founded in 1974. The school provides a Preschool and Elementary program of education based on the philosophy of Maria Montessori. Founded in 1974, by Regine Ebner, M. Ed., The Montessori Schoolhouse has been recognized as one of Tucson's best early education programs. Since receiving our charter for grades K-6 in 1997, The Montessori Schoolhouse has been an award-winning public school and has ranked among the top-performing public schools in the state.

Montessori Schoolhouse MaterialsThe Preschool/Kindergarten class is located at 1127 North Sixth Avenue, about one mile west of the University of Arizona. The Elementary School, grades 1-6, is located at 1301 E. Fort Lowell Road, at Mountain Avenue and Fort Lowell Road, about one mile north of the University.

As a charter school since 1997, no tuition is paid by Kindergarten or Elementary students for the regular school day. Preschool and Before- and Afterschool Care are offered on a fee basis.

Our classrooms are carefully arranged with beautiful learning materials to provide children between the ages of 3 and 11 an environment of individual freedom that encourages academic progress and promotes a love of learning.


Montessori Schoolhouse MaterialsIn addition to Reading and Math, the Elementary program includes a full Science curriculum, World Geography, History, Story Writing, Social Studies and the Arts. Our programs are tailored to meet the needs of each individual child at his/her level of achievement, allowing each child to progress in all areas of learning at his/her own individual pace.

Extracurricular Activities
The Montessori Schoolhouse offers a rich variety of extracurricular activities including piano and violin, a minstrel who sings weekly with the children, music ensemble, Spanish, a dynamic and sophisticated chess program and a sports/physical education program based on cooperative as well as competitive activities.

Staff
All Head Teachers at The Montessori Schoolhouse are trained and Montessori Certified and all Assistants are trained by the Montessori Schoolhouse Director and staff.

call us at 520-319-8668Owner, Director and Founder of The Montessori Schoolhouse, Regine Ebner studied art and creative writing at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Literature from the University of Hartford. She trained in Montessori at the Montessori Training Center of Michigan and received her Master of Education degree in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Arizona. Regine is certified by the American Montessori Society.

Since receiving her Masters degree, Regine has worked as a Family Counselor in private practice. In addition to directing The Montessori Schoolhouse, Regine supervises the teaching of the Elementary classrooms and currently co-teaches in the Lower Elementary classroom.
